HouseKit

A drummer for your practice, built for guitarists.

Most drum apps hand you a grid and expect you to think like a drummer. HouseKit starts from the song you're playing: lay out the sections, say how it should feel, and play along. It runs entirely on your iPad.

Each block is a section, as wide as its bars. The bar underneath is its energy: it builds into each chorus and peaks at the last. Fills land where the song changes.

What makes it different

Six things other drum sequencers don't do

Step sequencers and loop players are made for producers programming beats. HouseKit is made for the person holding a guitar.

Songs, not patterns

You arrange a song; HouseKit plays the drums

Build in sections, from 14 song templates, or let Build It for Me lay out a whole song from a style, a vibe and a length. Count-ins, fills into each chorus and a proper ending come with it.

Plain words

Say how it should feel

Each section has one Energy control, from Chill to Big. Or type, or say, what you want: "more swing in the chorus", "punchier", "add 4 bars to chorus 2". Every change can be undone.

Sounds like…

Start from a song you love

Name one of 70 well-known songs, describe a feel ("a slow 6/8 blues"), or let HouseKit listen to a recording you own. It measures the tempo, the feel and whether it's in 3 or 4, then builds the drums.

Made for playing along

Hands stay on the guitar

Play-along mode reads from across the room. Changes wait for the bar line so the groove never breaks, a countdown shows what's next, and a Bluetooth page turner or MIDI foot controller steps through the song.

Real drums

Recorded kits, played like a drummer would

Three acoustic kits recorded by real players (a jazz club kit, a big rock kit and a dry vintage kit), with several hit strengths and alternate takes per drum. Twelve kits in all, each piece retunable and reshapable.

Yours to keep

Timing you can trust, files you own

The engine places every hit to the sample, and an export sounds exactly like playback. Export a 24-bit WAV and use it anywhere: every sound is public domain, so no credit is needed.

What you won't find

Three things HouseKit leaves out

No subscription

No monthly fee, no account to make, no features held back for a higher tier.

No cloud

Your songs, kits and grooves live on your iPad. Nothing is uploaded and HouseKit collects no data. It works on a plane.

Voice requests use Apple's speech recognition, which runs on the iPad where supported and otherwise goes through Apple.

No generative AI

Nothing is generated. Every groove was written by hand, every sound was played by a real drummer, and requests are understood by HouseKit's own built-in rules.

On iPads with Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device model can help read unusually worded requests. It runs offline and never writes the drums.

Yours, license free

Every sound is either synthesized in the app or comes from recordings released into the public domain (CC0). Every groove and kit was made for HouseKit. So anything you make with HouseKit is yours: use it in recordings, videos, streams and live shows, sell it, with no license fees, royalties or credit needed.

Recorded drums from Virtuosity Drums (Versilian Studios), and Big Rusty Drums and Swirly Drums (Karoryfer Samples).
